Dooragan National Park holds a historical base. Local aboriginal people narrate a story according to which three brothers of the tribe of Birpai were killed by Widjirriejugg, a witch. After being killed these brothers where buried under the mountains. The park is named after Dooragan, who was the youngest of these brothers.

Ways to Access
Dooraban National Park is nearest to Port Macquarie (35 mins, 45 km). There are two access routes which are best opted for:
Ø Take Laurieton Road from Port Macquarie and drive until you arrive at Laurieton. After reaching Laurieton, take the Kew Road for a distance of 2.5 kms. Then by turning left arrive at the Captain Cook Bicentenary Road and following it reach to the summit of North Brother Mountain.
Ø One can also access the park by turning right from the Laurieton Road after 8 kms to the Captain Cook Bicentenary Road. Following this road one can reach to the summit of North Brother Mountain.
