Murlen National Park
The Murlen National Park is one of the best National Parks of Mizoram. It is situated about 245 km east of Aizawl. This park lies close to the Indo-Myanmar and is significant because of its proximity to the Chin hills. It covers an area of approximately 100 sq. km.
The Tropical, Semi evergreeen and Sub montane Forests of Murlen are home to a rich variety of Flora and Fauna. About 15 species of mammals, 150 species of birds, 35 species of Medicinal plants. 2 species of bamboos & 4 species of orchids so far have been recorded in this Park.

The Important Natural features are »
• The Virgin forests of Chamdur
• Unique flora of semi-evergreen and Sub montane forests to scrub jungle.
• Forests interpolated with steep precipitous hills, high cliffs, rippling rivulets, natural salt Licks at altitudinal zone of 400 - 1897 Mts.
• Home for unique endangered Wild animals & variety of birds.

Flora »
The vegetation is admixture of Quercus, Schima wallichai, Betula specie , Michelia champaca, Pinus Khasia, Prunus Myrica, Rhodendron, Arundinaria callosa, Canes and variety of orchids.

Fauna »
Tiger, Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Serow, Hoolock gibbon, Rhesus macaque, Malayan giant, squirrel, Hume's Pheasant, Kallej Pheasant, Common patridges, Hill myana, dark rumped swift.

Climate : Pleasant and equable warm climate throughout the year with moderate to chilly winter during November - January at higher altitudes.
Best Season to visit : October to March.
Approach : Aizawl to Murlen via Champhai.
Nearest Airport : Lengpui Airport 43 Kms from Aizawl
Nearest Rail Station : Silchar

The National Park is a protected reserve. The natural environment belongs to all of us and therefore should be enjoyed by everyone, as much as possible, not only now, but also in future years. It is also a responsibility shared by everyone of us. This is the reason why certain regulations and a code of conduct have to be observed.

So please »
• Stay on the paths. Do not enter the Park without prior permission of Park authority and entry ticket.
• Transistors, tape recorders and loud conversations are taboo in the Park.
• Dress in colour blending with the forests like khaki, Brown Olive green etc.
• Make full use of local nature guide and field staff on duty.
• Do not shoot with gun, but with a Camera.
• Make a check list of creatures observed during your trip. You may also prepare simple notes which you can compare from trip to trip.

Caution »
• Take strict precautions to guard against accidental forest fires caused through carelessness.
• Avoid any form of Pollution within the Park- either of air, soil and water including the Flora & Fauna.
• Keep a reasonable distance from all animals. Disturbed animals may be provoked to a attack.
• Do not go near a nest, an alarmed bird can damage the eggs to be hatched.
• Leave things as you found them, do not litter..
