This second smallest state of India, Sikkim is endowed with the precious gift of rich flora ranges from the Alpine to the subtropical, from rhododendrons to orchids. Many rare and exotic species of flora and fauna are endemic to the area - many almost extinct very rare forms of wild-life found in the area had naturally evoked a lot of interest among the elite circles of naturalist, botanists and zoologist. Tiger, leopard, sambar, barking deer, leopard cat, marbed cat, squirrel are mostly confined to warmer areas. Yak, panda, otter, goral, wild bear, ovis, nahura, bhyang-lung (wild sheep) and Vyang-gra (wild goat) are other animals that can be seen in snow-clad areas. The treasure of avifauna also consists of eagles, barbet, Himalayan cuckoo, Babblers and Thrushes. Some of the popular sanctuaries and national parks of the state are Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary, Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kyongnosia Alpine Sanctuary, Khangchendzonga National Park, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. Khangchendzonga National Park is the largest park of the state. It is indeed the land for the ordinary holiday makers who desire to rest or wander around at will to refresh their mind and feast their eyes with the rich treasure that nature has so fondly bestowed. The proximity of the wildlife is surely going to leave you slack-jawed!
