About Palamau Tiger Reserve!
The Palamau Tiger Reserve was declared a reserve in the year 1973 under the umbrella of Project Tiger. The reserve is situated on the western part of Chhotanagpur plateau, Jharkhand. The reserve occupies an area of around 1026square.kilometers, which abounds in vast natural vegetation cover. In the southern side of the forest lie the Netarhat hills, while on the north it is bordered by River Auranga.

The tiger reserve comprises of both Betla National Park and the Palamau Sanctuary. The former occupies an area of 226sq.kms and forms the core area, while the latter one covers an area of around 980sq.kms. There are around 110 villages that are located in the reserve area. The villagers belong to various tribes like Chero, Munda, Birjia, Kherwar and many more. They live in harmony with the natural environment and wildlife present around.

Flora & Fauna
The Palamau Tiger Reserve is rich in natural vegetation cover that comprises of various rare species of plants & trees. Some of the common species of trees are Shorea robusta, Adina cardifolia, Madhuca indica, Butea monosperma, Holarrhena antidysentrica, Acacia catechu, Anogeisus latifolia, Pterocarpus marsupium, Mallotus phillipinensis and many more.

The sanctuary is a home to various species of animal like tiger, wolves, leopards, wild dogs, sloth bear, jungle cats, mouse dear, four horned antelope etc. According to the 1991 census, the population of tigers is around 54. One can also see here a herd of elephant that comprises of around 104 elephants

Rail- The closest railway station is situated at Daltonganj (25kms).
Air- The closest airport is located at Ranchi, which is at a distance of around 161kms from the sanctuary.
Road- The sanctuary is well connected by road to major places.
