Date of Establishment-1988. Area-6.99square.kilometers. Location-The sanctuary is situated around 40kms to the northwest side of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. About Thol Wild Life Sanctuary! Thol Wild Life Sanctuary was established in the year 1988 so as to protect the wildlife of the area. It is situated in the district of Mehsana and is at a distance of around 40kms from Ahmedabad. The sanctuary covers a small area of 6.99sq.kms but still has a diverse vegetation cover. The sanctuary has a man constructed lake known as Thol, which covers the major area of the sanctuary. The lake has a storage capacity of about 84mcm of water. The place is mostly a wetland and has marshes at edges along with scrub forests on either side of the embankments. The place is quite peaceful and is a perfect destination for those who want to avoid the hustle & bustle of the city life. The best time for visiting the sanctuary is between the months of October-March. Avifauna Thol Wild Life Sanctuary shelters various species of domestic as well as the migratory birds. During winters one can see a large number of birds like flamingos, black ibis, waterfowls, grey pelicans, spotted flycatcher, graylag geese, waders, mallards etc. How to reach! Air-The closest airport is located at Ahmedabad, which is 40kms from the sanctuary. Rail-The closest railway station is at Ahmedabad (40kms).
